JBL Returns To WWE Commentary On SmackDown
WWE Hall of Famer JBL was back at the announce desk on SmackDown for a very special edition of the show.
JBL had previously been a commentator for WWE for several years before stepping down from the role on a full-time basis in 2017. Since then he has made sporadic appearances for the company, including for his induction into the Hall of Fame which took place in 2021.
However, in Providence, Rhode Island, JBL was back at the commentary desk alongside Kevin Patrick and Michael Cole as SmackDown doubled as Tribute To The Troops.
Michael Cole noted on commentary that JBL was the man who had the initial idea for Tribute To The Troops in 2003 and that neither he nor the former WWE Champion had missed a single edition of the show.
What Happened On WWE SmackDown?
JBL was ringside for the SmackDown return of CM Punk. CM Punk referenced his backstage fights in AEW on the show and had some choice words for Seth Rollins, indicating that their eventual feud is set to get kicked into high gear.
The first matches in the tournament to find a new number one contender for the US Title also took place. Santos Escobar defeated Dragon Lee to progress while Bobby Lashley also did the same by beating Karrion Kross.
