JBL Recalls WWE Legend Rocky Johnson Jumping From Moving Plane
WWE Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield has shared an outrageous story about fellow Hall of Famer Rocky Johnson, who once jumped out of a moving aeroplane in a moment of panic.
Speaking on Something to Wrestle, JBL recounted an incident involving wrestling veteran Gerald Brisco, who accidentally started a fire while smoking marijuana in the bathroom of a plane. The fire broke out while the aircraft was taxiing for takeoff, with smoke visibly pouring from the lavatory into the cabin.
JBL then revealed how the late Rocky Johnson, father of wrestling icon The Rock, reacted in sheer panic and leapt from the aircraft, fearing a potential explosion.
“Rocky Johnson jumped out of the plane, not when it was off the ground, but they were going down the tarmac to get to the runway to take off,” JBL recalled. “Now, they can’t leave because they’re leaving Rocky behind, so they have to stop and go back and get Rocky, and I guess secondary they put out the fire, you’d think they’d have put out the fire first.”
The wild tale captures the unpredictable nature of life on the road for professional wrestlers, where unexpected incidents often became legendary stories. While no serious harm came from the situation, the image of a Hall of Famer diving from a moving plane remains a memorable piece of wrestling lore.
Which Fellow WWE Hall Of Famer Did JBL Say Deserved A World Title?
JBL spoke about how he believes that fellow WWE Hall of Famer “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase deserved to hold the company’s top prize. DiBiase, despite having a storied career, never held the WWE’s top title, except on one unrecognised occasion where he bought the belt from Andre the Giant in 1988 after he defeated Hulk Hogan for the title and the title was made vacant immediately afterwards.
