JBL Recalls Backstage Shoot Match Between Big Show And Great Khali

JBL Praises Current WWE Superstar's Remarkable Career Trajectory

WWE Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield has shared a story about a backstage altercation involving two of wrestling’s largest superstars, The Big Show and The Great Khali.

Speaking on an episode of the Something to Wrestle podcast, JBL recounted hearing about the incident, though he clarified he was not present when it occurred.

“Big Show and Khali got into, I wouldn’t say it was a fight, it was like a shoot wrestling match, overseas, one time,” he said. “Both of them ended up on the ground, apparently, they kind of worked up to a shoot. I don’t know if Khali tried to take Big Show down or something, or if Big Show took him down. I can’t remember.”

The altercation reportedly happened during an overseas tour and escalated into a real wrestling contest rather than a typical backstage disagreement. Although JBL did not witness the encounter himself, he offered his thoughts on the likely outcome had the clash been more serious.

When asked who he would back in a legitimate fight between the two giants, JBL was quick to make his choice. He said he would favour Wight, noting that Khali’s well-documented mobility issues would have placed him at a major disadvantage.

How Did JBL Accidentally Insult Freddie Prinze Jr. When He Joined WWE As A Writer?

JBL spoke about how he inadvertently insulted Hollywood star Freddie Prinze Jr. when Prinze Jr. first joined WWE as a writer in 2008. JBL said that he affectionately called Prinze Jr. “Scooby-Doo” due to Prinze Jr.’s Portrayal of the character “Fred” in the mid-2000s Scooby-Doo live-action movies. However, Prinze Jr. felt that JBL was not being friendly and felt that the former WWE Champion was being disrespectful to him.
