JBL Recalls Eddie Guerrero Fighting Kurt Angle In Locker Room

JBL has given firsthand account of what went down between Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle any why it happened.

Several wrestlers have described Eddie Guerrero as having a challenging year in 2004. The pressure of being WWE Champion at a time when SmackDown had a relatively thin roster caused him to act out in unusual ways.

One of Eddie’s most rash and inexplicable action was described by his friend JBL on his Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw podcast. According to the Hall of Famer, Eddie went after Angle because he was upset that Angle had allegedly stiffed him.

And while Angle was said to work stiff from time to time, apparently Eddie was so frustrated with this that he tried to leg dive Kurt Angle…an Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling.

“You know a fight’s going on in the locker room … you can tell by the noise, and this was a fight. So finally, [John] Laurinaitis had gotten between Eddie and Kurt. Kurt was outside the dressing room, Eddie was inside it, I was dressing right by Eddie.

Laurinaitis shut the door, so that separated Kurt and Eddie. Eddie comes back and sits down, and I could tell by the noise that’s going on that … Eddie had tried to leg dive [him].”

Despite that scuffle, Eddie and Angle quickly made amends and the matter was resolved. However, JBL was still gob smacked that Eddie would attempt something so ludicrous. But when he asked Eddie why he did what he did, he couldn’t help but laugh at his answer.

So I’m sitting there looking at Eddie, and he’s not looking at me at all. He’s looking at the door, just mad as he can be, breathing so loud you can hear him breathe.

Finally I said ‘Why would you leg dive a gold medalist?’ And without looking at me, he goes ‘Cause I’m stupid!’ That was great. Then he finally started laughing.”
