WWE Hall Of Famer Criticizes AEW For How They Use Jay White

Jay White is All Elite, but one WWE Hall of Famer hasn’t been impressed by how the company has utilized the newcomer.

On the April 5th edition of AEW Dynamite, Jay White made his debut in the company. There were rumors that WWE was very interested in signing him, but due to an apparent “hiring freeze” following the WWE sale and White possibly feeling more comfortable in AEW, the talented New Zealander is in AEW.

Since joining AEW, Jay White has been paired up with his good friend Juice Robinson as “Bullet Club Gold.” Over the last month, they have had a rivalry with Ricky Starks.

This past Wednesday on AEW Dynamite, Starks beat Robinson clean. White tried to attack Starks post match, but Ricky was able to avoid a lot of damage as the heels retreated. It certainly feels like Starks is on a collision course with White for a match at Double Or Nothing on May 28th on pay-per-view.

While some people think White joining AEW was a big deal since he’s a former top star in NJPW that was the IWGP World Heavyweight Title, a lot of fans don’t know much about him. Despite his presence in AEW over the last month, those same fans still don’t know much about White.

During a recent episode of Busted Open Radio, co-host Bully Ray, who is a WWE Hall of Famer that was known as Bubba Ray Dudley for much of his career, talked about how AEW uses White.

“Not enough people on that show last night are super over. There are people there that they don’t know whether they should cheer or boo, i.e. a Jay White. People want to love Jay White, but they’re booing him last night. He’s already a tweener, and he’s already in this same situation that most guys that get brought into AEW with lots of pomp and circumstances find themselves in.”

Bully Ray also thought that Roderick Strong should have got the win in his AEW debut tag team match, but it was Adam Cole winning for his team instead. Bully Ray said that in both cases with Jay White and Roderick Strong, they have been “cooled off” by the company.

“You can cut this anyway you want, Jay White and Roderick Strong are on the same trajectory as everyone else that comes into AEW. Little bit of fanfare, and then immediately cooled off.”
