Jaw-Dropping!! Oba Femi Does The Unthinkable At NXT New Year’s Evil
This year’s NXT programming was off to an action-packed start as the first show of the year closed out with multiple talking points after an eventful New Year’s Evil event.
The night was filled with major announcements and huge title matches, which saw Izzi Dame win her first championship on the brand after she beat Thea Hail for the Women’s North American Championship.
The night closed out with a high-stakes NXT Title match as Leon Slater challenged Oba Femi for his title, but ended up short as the Ruler retained the title after an intense match.
Oba Femi seemingly relinquishes the NXT Championship
However, he shocked the fans just moments after winning the title following his actions. General Manager Ava was talking to potential new NXT recruits when Robert Stone alerted her to the events in the ring.
The screen cut to a blacked-out ring that saw the NXT Championship left in the center of the ring, with Oba nowhere to be seen. He seems to have relinquished the title following his win, as he is widely expected to move up to the main roster soon.

What made the final shot of New Year’s Evil even more interesting was that Tony D’Angelo was seen amongst the crowd as he hid his eyes fixed on the now-seemingly vacant title.
