Janel Grant’s Attorney Issues Statement As Vince McMahon Takes $1.7 Million Hit

Vince McMahon

Janel Grant’s attorney says the world now has confirmation Vince McMahon broke the law to cover up years of abuse.

On January 10th it was revealed that Vince McMahon had been charged with “violating federal securities laws” by the Securities and Exchange Commission. The charge relates to McMahon’s failure to disclose settlement agreements worth $10.5 million to WWE’s board of directors.

In response, McMahon agreed to pay a $400,000 civil penalty while reimbursing WWE a further $1.33 million after “consenting to an order finding that he violated the Securities Exchange Act.”

One of the settlement agreements obligated McMahon to pay $3 million to an unnamed former WWE employee in exchange for her silence about a relationship with the pair. In the lawsuit filed by Janel Grant in January 2024, she claimed that McMahon had agreed to pay her $3 million as part of a non-disclosure agreement, but only paid her $1 million.

Following the news of McMahon’s settlement with the SEC, Grant’s attorney, Ann Callis issued the following statement. Callis said she and her client look forward to bringing “new evidence” in the case against McMahon.

“During his time leading WWE, Vince McMahon acted as if rules did not apply to him, and now we have confirmation that he repeatedly broke the law to cover up his horrifying behavior, including human trafficking.

The SEC’s charges prove that the NDA Vince McMahon coerced Ms. Grant into signing violates the law, and therefore her case must be heard in court. While prosecutors for the Southern District of New York continue their criminal investigation, we look forward to bringing forward new evidence in our civil case about the sexual exploitation Ms. Grant endured at WWE by Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis.”

In a statement issued after news of the settlement broke, McMahon described his actions as a “minor accounting error.”

On January 3rd, new filings revealed that Janel Grant is planning to amend the lawsuit filed against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis. The updated complaint will be filed on January 15th, 2025, a little under a year after the original suit was filed.
