Jake Roberts Admits He Wouldn’t Have Made A Good Match Agent

WWE Hall of Famer Jake Roberts has acknowledged that he doesn’t believe he would have been suited for the role of a match agent, pointing to his outspoken personality as a key reason.

Speaking on his The Snake Pit podcast, Jake Roberts was asked what makes a good agent in professional wrestling. His response was simple:

“Just gotta do your job, you know?”

When asked whether he thought he himself would have excelled in the role, Roberts didn’t hesitate to dismiss the idea. He explained that his habit of voicing his opinions about every performer would have made the job overwhelming.

“Well, number one, I’d be speaking my piece, and if I spoke my piece on every guy that goes to that ring, I’m gonna be f**king busy,” Roberts said.

In the wrestling business, match agents play a crucial role in helping talent structure their bouts, ensuring they align with the show’s overall creative direction. Many former wrestlers take on the position after retiring from in-ring competition, but Roberts suggested that his strong views on match quality and psychology would have made the job too demanding.

While he may not have thrived as an agent, Roberts’ legacy as one of wrestling’s greatest storytellers continues to influence generations of performers.

Why Does Jake Roberts Dislike Modern Steel Cage Matches?

Jake Roberts spoke about why he dislikes modern Steel Cage matches and why he prefers the old-school style of the match type. Roberts explained that the original idea of the cage match of keeping the action confined in the ring without risk of outside interference has been lost as the modern style of the match centres around the combatants both trying to escape the cage first, which Roberts believes makes no sense ring psychology-wise.
