Kris Statlander has commented on how her match with Jade Cargill on AEW Rampage was about proving something.

The main event of AEW Rampage last Friday (a match taped after Dynamite last Wednesday) was a TBS Championship match between the champion Kris Statlander and the former champion Jade Cargill.

It was back in May at Double or Nothing 2023 when Statlander ended Cargill’s 61-0 undefeated record and took the TBS Championship as well. Cargill was the TBS Champion for 508 days and had just defeated Taya Valkyrie. Statlander made her return from a knee injury that night and took the title from Cargill in about one minute.

On Rampage, they finally had a rematch. It was a 10-minute battle full of power moves, nearfalls and a crowd that appreciated the effort. Statlander won with her Friday Night Fever piledriver. After the match, they shook hands, hugged and raised their hands in the air together.

In an interview with Under The Ring, Statlander spoke about how both women went into the match with something to prove because both women wanted to have a proper match for a long time.

“I’m glad the match finally happened. It’s something that I’ve been wanting for a while. There has been a lot of discourse about me not being a true champion, that it wasn’t a true open challenge that Mark put out. I feel there is a lot to prove, and we’re going to prove in this match.”

“It’s not just about me, it’s about her also. It’s a special thing. It’s a very special match. It’s something we both wanted and a lot of people wanted to see. Going into it, we both had something to prove and it helps raise the stakes a little more. If you missed it, you should watch it.”

Jade Cargill makes AEW exit leading to WWE career

That AEW Rampage match between Statlander and Cargill was the last match for Cargill while under AEW contract. As we have covered over the last week, Cargill has been signed by WWE and is going to start training at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando this week.

It is also expected that Cargill will likely receive a pretty big push in WWE since she is likely being paid a lot of money for a new signing. The company could choose to have her skip an NXT run and put her on the main roster whenever they have a creative plan for her.
