It’s Over! Fans Left In Shock By Finish Of John Cena’s WWE Retirement Match
The legendary career of 17-time WWE World Champion John Cena has officially come to an end as the Face that Runs the place has finally hung up his boots after 23 years in the business.
He announced at last year’s edition of Money in the Bank that this year would be his last as an in-ring competitor, and he honoured his words tonight at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event.
After spending his final run giving the fans everything they wanted, from the 17th World Championship run to a short run with the Intercontinental Championship, he ended his run with a brutal match against The Ring General, Gunther.
Gunther defeats John Cena in his final WWE match
John Cena began the match dominantly and took the fight to the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion. He started the match strong and hit Gunther with a five-kuckle shuffle and an AA for a two-count.
He tried to submit the Ring General with an STF as well, but he reversed the move and took control of the match. He hit Cena with a barrage of clotheslines to weaken his opponent, before the Never Seen 17 found a second wind and hit him with another AA.
Gunther gained the upper hand once again after they traded sleeper holds with each other and continued to assault him on the outside. Cena hit Gunther with an AA through the announce table and even an avalanche AA on separate occasions, but they weren’t enough to put Gunther out.
It's over.

Cena refused to give in to Gunther’s brutal attacks as well, but began fading out once the Ring General wrapped him in his dreaded Sleeper hold. He got out of the hold on multiple occassions but Gunther’s brutal elbow strikes to Cena’s jaw proved to be one blow too many and John Cena ultimately tapped out to Gunther in his final match, leaving the fans in utter disbelief.
