Is Tony Khan Worried About AEW’s Future Amid WBD Sale?
Tony Khan and AEW might be facing an uncertain future after it emerged that their media rights partner could be sold.
AEW signed a much-talked-about major media rights deal in 2024, and the timing perhaps could not have been better for Tony Khan’s company.
Since then, rumours have run rampant that AEW’s primary media rights partner, Warner Bros. Discovery, could be sold. Suitors ranging from Netflix, Saudi Arabia, Paramount, and Comcast have all been touted as possible buyers, but it remains to be seen what will happen and if it could affect AEW in the long term.
Tony Khan Happy With Warner Bros. Discovery
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Tony Khan was asked for his thoughts about the situation, but Khan is relaxed as he thinks AEW is one of WBD’s stronger franchises:
Well, I feel really great about AEW’s relationship with Warner Bros. Discovery, and I think it’s a great situation for us, where we’re one of those strong franchises, like I said on multiple channels and properties, where AEW is clearly very strongly figured in.
Just as an example, we’ve got this huge pay-per-view this Saturday, it’s presented by DC as the presenting sponsor. I think anyone looking at Warner Bros, anyone would say that this is a very important part of the portfolio. For DC to sponsor with us, and also the collaborations that they’re doing with us.
Elsewhere in the interview, Tony Khan suggested that Andrade may have misled him over his return to AEW.
