Is Cody Rhodes Facing WWE Injury Nightmare?

Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes has had fans worried as an injury scare threatens to blight his time as WWE Champion but is there cause for real concern?

Cody Rhodes finished his story at WrestleMania 40 when he captured the WWE Championship from Roman Reigns. the delight in WWE was palpable as emotions ran high when Rhodes won the gold for the first time in his career. But being at the top is always a precarious position in wrestling.

Since that win, Cody Rhodes has competed in just one televised match which took place on SmackDown on night one of the WWE Draft. Rhodes took on Carmelo Hayes and one spot in the match had people talking.

Rhodes and Hayes both appeared to go for versions of the Cody Cutter at the same time only for both men to miss their opponent, crashing and burning. However, Rhodes appeared to land hard on his shoulder and was favouring it for much of the match afterwards. That left many people concerned that The American Nightmare had suffered a legitimate injury.

Cody Rhodes Injury Not Listed As Real

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer gave his insight into the situation and believed WWE would have addressed the injury on Raw if it was part of a storyline but does not think it is anything significant:

He’s not listed as injured. They never mentioned it on TV so it’s not a worked injury either, it’s not like it’s in storyline because it wasn’t mentioned. [Bryan Alvarez noted that Rhodes wasn’t on the show and if it was going to be mentioned, then it would be on SmackDown].

It’s the main event on the pay-per-view, I would think that if they were doing a storyline they would have mentioned it. They showed all kinds of clips from SmackDown and they never addressed it.

I would say if they were going to address it as storyline then it would have been [addressed on Raw]. It’s the pay-per-view main event, it would have been addressed tonight. So I don’t think it’s being addressed.

I was told that it was not listed as a real injury so whatever it was, it might be something minor, it might be nothing at all. It’s probably nothing at all significant.

Cody Rhodes is scheduled to defend the WWE Championship against AJ Styles at Backlash. It is likely Rhodes’ condition will become clearer on SmackDown which takes place one day before the premium live event in France.
