Is AEW’s Bryan Danielson Okay With Not Wrestling Again?

Bryan Danielson is letting fans know that there is a real possibility that he may never wrestle again.

In the main event of the AEW All In London PPV, Bryan Danielson beat Swerve Strickland to become the AEW World Champion for the first time. If Danielson lost that match, he would have had to retire as a full-time wrestler.

That retirement stipulation continued for Danielson, who lost the AEW World Title to his former friend Jon Moxley at WrestleDream in October.

Danielson has said that he’s only retired as a full-time wrestler and that he was hoping to continue wrestling part-time for many more years.

Unfortunately, Bryan Danielson is dealing with serious neck issues that could prevent him from competing as a wrestler ever again. The neck injuries have caused Danielson to miss plenty of in-ring time in the past as well.

In an interview with Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture, Danielson revealed that his neck problems are affecting his quality of sleep. The happily married father of two (daughter Birdie and son Buddy with his wife Nikki) is still happy with his life.

“My neck is not great. It’s causing me to not sleep good and some other things. At the end of the day, I’m happy. At first, it was a little tough. For parents out there, the first three weeks of having a child where you’re not sleeping at all, but then you get used to not sleeping very well. I’ve just become used to not sleeping. I’m happy and I’ve had an incredible time being with my family and kids.”

Bryan Danielson Hoping To Avoid Neck Surgery

When he was asked if he needed neck surgery, Bryan responded: “I’m trying to avoid it.”

“The idea to me is that surgery is a last resort, not a first resort. I’m trying some other things. I’m a little goofy. I’m going to try some other things first before undergoing the knife. That’s my plan now.”

As for a potential in-ring return, Bryan said there’s about a 50% chant while adding that he’d be okay if it was the end of his career as a wrestler.

“If I had to guess right now, I’d say it’s 50/50 if I’ll ever (wrestle again). I’m okay with that. I loved the time I got to spend doing this, but I also love what I’m doing now.”

In other comments made by Danielson, he assured AEW fans that he’ll be at All In Texas next summer in the Dallas area whether he’s in the ring having a match or doing something else like commentating or simply sitting in the back and supporting the talent on the show.
