Interim Champion To Be Crowned As AEW Star Injured
Tony Khan has been forced to crown another interim champion as one AEW star is suffering from injury.
Interim champions are nothing new in AEW, with Toni Storm famously becoming Interim AEW Women’s World Champion for the first time when Thunder Rosa was forced to vacate the title due to injury. Storm’s reign was eventually upgraded, but Tony Khan has now been forced to act again.
Tony Khan Takes Action After AEW/ROH Star Injured
Speaking on the AEW All In Texas media call, Tony Khan revealed Red Velvet will be unable to defend the ROH Women’s Television Title at ROH Supercard of Honor due to injury, and instead, an interim champion will be crowned:
With the injury to Red Velvet, it’s something that I think she’s going to be able to work through, but she’s not going to be able to defend, due to injury, the women’s TV championship at Supercard of Honor. I will address that situation with an interim TV title. Because Red Velvet will not be able to compete, I will be having an ROH Women’s TV Title Interim Champion crowned at Supercard of Honor.
Khan then confirmed that the situation has caused a delay in starting a tournament for the newly-created ROH Women’s Pure Title, as many of the same stars scheduled for that will be competing to replace Red Velvet:
That situation caused some delays in getting the Pure Title tournament started because, frankly, it’s a lot of the same people fighting for the interim TV champion position, who would also be in line for the Pure tournament. I think Red Velvet will be back in a matter of weeks, maybe a few months, tops.
Red Velvet captured the ROH Women’s TV Title at Death Before Dishonor in July 2024 when she defeated Billie Starkz.
