Injury Forces Major AEW Tournament Change

AEW Tony Khan

An injury to one AEW star has forced the company to make a major change in one title tournament.

AEW recently revealed the brackets for the tournament to crown the first-ever AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions, and it is packed with both current and former titleholders.

Timeless Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa commiserated after their tough losses at WrestleDream, but those two will now come together to face the team of Alex Windsor and Riho in the first round. The other quarter-final in that side of the bracket pits longtime partners Anna Jay and Tay Melo against Penelope Ford and Megan Bayne.

The other side of the bracket sees Jamie Hayter and Queen Aminata continue their feud with the Triangle of Madness as they clash with Skye Blue and Julia Hart. The quarter finals are rounded out by Willow Nightingale and Harley Cameron going up against the longest-reigning TBS Champion Mercedes Mone and the longest-reigning ROH Women’s Champion Athena.

But that is not exactly how things will play out.

AEW Forced To Make Tournament Change

On Fright Night Dynamite, Penelope Ford revealed she had suffered an injury that would put her out of action indefinitely. Megan Bayne, however, drafted in a replacement as she revealed she will now be teaming with the Death Riders’ Marina Shafir.

The tournament kicked off on that show with Julia Hart and Skye Blue advancing to the semi-finals as they defeated Tay Melo and Anna Jay.
