Injured WWE Star Pitched As John Cena’s Final Opponent
John Cena is gearing up to end his illustrious wrestling career soon, and WWE has officially announced AJ Styles as his next opponent in his farewell tour.
The two stars will face off at WWE Crown Jewel on October 11, 2025, in Perth, Australia. This match is highly anticipated, as Cena and Styles have a long history of intense and celebrated battles dating back to 2016-2017. Despite Cena’s limited appearances during his farewell tour, fans are excited to see two of the greatest performers lock horns once more.
Following Crown Jewel, The Last Real Champion will have a few more appearances marked on WWE programming. He is scheduled for the Survivor Series event on November 29, 2025, and two episodes of Monday Night Raw in November, including shows in Boston and Madison Square Garden. However, the biggest and most suspenseful moment awaits at his official retirement match.
WWE has confirmed that John Cena’s final wrestling bout will headline Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, 2025, at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. This event is expected to be a grand farewell to one of the most influential wrestlers in WWE history, with premium ticket prices reflecting its significance.
Bill Apter Wants Gunther To Be John Cena’s Final Opponent
There is much excitement and speculation among fans and wrestling insiders about who John Cena’s final opponent will be for his retirement match. Various names have been floated, including top WWE stars such as Jey Uso, Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, and The Rock, each presenting intriguing possibilities.
The suspense surrounding Cena’s final opponent adds to the emotional weight of his farewell, with many believing WWE will choose a high-profile, meaningful rival to give The Never Seen 17 a memorable send-off. Speaking about the matter on The Wrestling Time Machine, veteran journalist Bill Apter expressed his desire to see absent star Gunther retire John Cena in WWE.
“We don’t know who his opponent is going to be yet. A lot of people are speculating it’s going to be Brock Lesnar, and that Cena is going to get the win over Lesnar to get even. But I don’t think that’s going to happen.
What I would like to see happen, there’s another guy I want to see come back and be Cena’s final opponent. That would be Gunther. I think that would be a great final match. I want to see Cena vs. Gunther in Cena’s retirement match. And if Cena doesn’t win, it’s okay. Gunther gets stronger with the win over John Cena.”
Gunther has been absent from WWE programming since losing the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam Night 1 on August 2, 2025. Since then, he has been absent due to a facial injury.
