Indie Star Confirms Talks With AEW Boss Tony Khan
Could Tony Khan be about to sign another rising star?
Michael Oku launched himself onto the radars of many fans in February 2024 when he wrestled Will Ospreay in the star’s last match before joining AEW.
However, Oku had been impressing on the independent scene for several years and even made a cameo at All In 2023.
On August 11th, the rising star was back in action with RevPro where he took on MJF. Although he was unsuccessful, Oku again impressed while proving he could go toe-to-toe with one of the best in the world.
It’s long been rumoured that Oku could be involved in AEW’s upcoming shows in the UK, and the man himself has now admitted an appearance could be on the cards.
During an interview with Stephanie Chase, Oku confirmed he’s spoken with Tony Khan.
“I’m trying to find the right way to answer this. I think that’s the most I can confirm, is that there’s been contact made, which obviously makes sense. I wrestled Will earlier in the year in front of Tony Khan.
I got to meet Tony Khan and have a conversation with him there at the venue as it happened. This match happens with MJF, they’ve posted my promo on their channels. They’re promoting this, so there’s been contact to allow these things to happen with AEW, so there’s been contact of what we can potentially do in the future. I’ll leave it there,”
Tony Khan Beats WWE To New Signing
While it remains to be seen whether Michael Oku eventually lands in AEW, Tony Khan has secured a deal with a different up-and-coming independent star.
It’s been reported that Tommy Billington — the nephew of the Dynamite Kid, has now signed with AEW. The young British star made his debut with the company in May, before appearing for a second time in July.
The same report claimed there was interest in Billington from NXT, but he decided to go with AEW.
