Impact Wrestling Likely Adding Two Former WWE Stars
IMPACT Wrestling could be about to land two former WWE Superstars. One of them is a former WWE Universal Champion.
Both Braun Strowman and Buddy Murphy were released by WWE on June 2nd 2021, and it seems that they could both be on their way to IMPACT.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that the former WWE stars could be about to find a new wrestling home. Meanwhile, IMPACT also reportedly retain interest in procuring the services of Bray Wyatt following his departure from WWE on July 31st.
“It appears that the former Braun Strowman and Buddy Murphy will be here, with Murphy as Buddy Matthews (his real name is Matthew Adams) and not sure what name Strowman will use. Scott D’Amore did a Twitch show from a baseball game and mentioned the term Braun for Glory. Impact also has a lot of interest in the former Bray Wyatt, although that one could go a lot of different ways.”
“Murphy seemed more suited for AEW in the sense he’s a great worker, people don’t even realize how good, in a place built around that. The fact Murphy is heavily pushing looking for indie dates would indicate he’s not going to AEW. But AEW is also loaded and Murphy could be pushed higher here as far as being one of their focal stars. Strowman is interesting because he is a big name who was a headliner in WWE until recently and would probably be pushed to the top here.”
It had previously been reported that WWE were in fact interested in bringing Strowman back to the company. The interest emerged in July apparently as a reaction to signings being made by AEW.
Strowman, whose real name is Adam Scherr, tweeted today using the word “impact” in the tweet, which could be a tease or just a coincidence.

IMPACT Wrestling’s interest in Wyatt comes after it was suggested that the former Universal Champion could be heading to AEW.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that AEW would “most likely” by Wyatt’s next destination. Meltzer compared the situation to that of fellow recently released WWE Superstar Aleister Black, now known as Malakai Black in AEW.
“It’s most likely happening,” Meltzer said. “It’s at the same stage as Aleister Black long before it happened. I don’t think there’s pen to paper or anything like that but the expectation is pretty strong, put it that way.”
Since leaving WWE, Buddy Murphy has released a series of videos on social media hyping his return to the ring. The former Cruiserweight Champion also posted “8/31/21” seemingly in reference to the end of his 90-day non-compete clause.
