Ilja Dragunov Called Out For Extremely Dangerous WWE Spot

WWE star Ilja Dragunov

‘Spirited’ is arguably the best adjective that describes Ilja Dragunov.

His in-ring acrobatics are nowhere close to high-flyers like Rey Fenix or Rey Mysterio. He is more of a human wrecking ball with the intensity of a rabid wolverine.

He is a mat wrestler, whose moves appear stiff and reckless at first glance, while he sells moves with bug-eyed madness.

After spending a year on the sidelines due to an injury, the Mad Dragon made his triumphant return on SmackDown, answering Sami Zayn’s United States Championship open challenge.

Not only did he challenge Zayn, but he also beat him to win the US title.

Ilja Dragunov Scrutinized By Wrestling Veteran

Since winning the championship, Ilja Dragunov has continued defending it every week like Sami Zayn.

Although his match against Aleister Black ended without any hiccups, his match against Fraxiom’s Nathan Frazer has drawn a bit of scrutiny from a former WWE star.

Stevie Richards broke down Dragunov vs. Frazer on his The Stevie Richards Show podcast, claiming a few spots reminded him of the match involving Ridge Holland and Big E, which proved to be career-ending for the latter.

This here gives me vibes of Ridge Holland and Big E. Why are you giving any suplexes like this on the floor? And he says, “Nothing personal” before he does it. This is a Benoit German suplex. Now, he didn’t land on the top of his head, but it’s still no-give German suplex. [0:35 onwards]

Richards also spoke about the German suplex that Ilja Dragunov hit on Nathan Frazer from the second rope, which caused the latter to land awkwardly on the top of his head.

They’re both on the top. You know, you can take your time there, but what’s he do? He’s not ready. You already knew what was gonna happen. His head hit. There’s no missing there. [4:35 onwards]
