Hulk Hogan Believes WCW Should Have Used Goldberg Differently
Hulk Hogan believes that WCW could have done something different with Goldberg that would have made him an even bigger star.
One of the biggest matches in the history of World Championship Wrestling took place on the July 6th, 1998 edition of WCW Monday Nitro when an undefeated Bill Goldberg beat “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan to become the WCW World Champion for the first time.
It’s a match that took place at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta in front of 30,000+ fans. While it was a great moment, many people also criticized WCW for putting that match on television rather than putting it on pay-per-view where people had to pay to see it.
Five months after that Goldberg-Hogan match, Goldberg lost the WCW World Title to Kevin Nash at Starrcade 1998 due to interference from Scott Hall. Goldberg’s undefeated streak was done and his mystique was hurt by the loss. Goldberg’s undefeated streak was 173-0 although the actual number of wins was significantly less than that.
While speaking with Bill Apter of Sportskeeda, Hulk Hogan thinks Goldberg should have been undefeated for a lot longer than he was.
“You could say, ‘Well, Goldberg should have never been beat. He was an attraction.’ From the movie industry to the entertainment industry, a lot of Jewish people were probably upset because this was the first time we ever had a 300-pound T-Rex killer. He was the second coming of Hulk Hogan as far as an attraction went.”
“I think Goldberg should have still been undefeated. That might have been one of the things that would have kept the revenue stream coming in, but decisions were made, and different people were in control of the pie.”
What Hogan could be referencing there is that when Kevin Nash beat Goldberg at Starrcade 1998, Nash was also a decision-maker as far as the WCW booking team goes.
Hulk Hogan Supports His “Hero” Donald Trump
The two-time WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan was back in the spotlight this week because he did a pro wrestling-style promo at the Republican National Convention on Thursday in Milwaukee to show his support for Donald Trump to become US President again. Hulk Hogan went on to explain that he was tired of staying silent and wanted to show his support for Trump.
“I got tired of remaining silent. I sat back and watched the borders collapse, I watched the economy collapse, I watched the price of gas, the price of food. Everything just does an upside-down flip.”
A video of Hulk Hogan’s shirt-ripping performance talking about “TrumpaMania” can be seen below.
