Hulk Hogan Reveals How Working In Music Prepared Him For Pro Wrestling Success
WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has opened up about the invaluable experience he gained from playing bass guitar in various bands in Florida before embarking on his illustrious pro wrestling career.
In a recent conversation on the “LIVE The Outbound Life” podcast, Hulk Hogan discussed how his time performing in front of live audiences as a musician helped him navigate the transition into the bright lights of professional wrestling.
Sometimes these wrestlers will be at the Performance Center, working with Shawn Michaels and whoever is there, and as soon as they get in front of a crowd they’re like… way behind the curve. This is a whole learning curve.
The Hulkster believes that the “seat time” he accumulated playing in bands prepared him for the demands of performing in front of large crowds, a skill that many young wrestlers struggle to develop.
What I had was, playing music for ten years and being in front of live audiences and live crowds – small, very small, it wasn’t very big at that time – you had a rapport with the crowd and you weren’t afraid to walk up to a microphone and talk or to be over animated and have fun on stage when you’re playing, really get into it.
This experience, according to the WWE legend, was crucial in ensuring he didn’t get “spooked” when he first stepped into the wrestling ring, unlike some performers who falter under the pressure of performing in front of massive crowds.
Before you go and start wrestling in Madison Square Garden, you better put in some serious seat time, otherwise you’ll poop the bed when you get there.
Hulk Hogan Explains Why He Lives His Life In Character
Hulk Hogan had discussed how he separates himself from his public persona and that it’s something he only really can do at home as he doesn’t want to disappoint his fans because they want ‘Hulk Hogan’, not Terry Bollea.
