Hulk Hogan Stands By Infamous WrestleMania Injury Story

Hulk Hogan Says A Missed Call Cost Him $550 Million Endorsement

Hulk Hogan has addressed why he had a black eye at WrestleMania 9 while also claiming that another story involving a WWE Hall of Famer is false.

Whenever two-time WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan tells a story, many wrestling fans will question its validity.

While nobody can deny that Hogan is one of the biggest names in the history of pro wrestling, he is also a man who has been known to fabricate a story or two or a dozen.

At WrestleMania 9 in Las Vegas in 1993, a returning Hulk Hogan teamed up with Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake to challenge Money Inc.’s Ted Dibiase & Irwin R. Schyster for the WWE Tag Team Titles. After nearly 20 minutes, the match ended as a disqualification that saw Money Inc. retain the titles.

The bigger story was that The Hulkster showed up with a huge black eye around his left eye that nearly led to his eye being shut. In storyline, WWE said that an attack by Money Inc. caused it. As for Hogan, he said it was caused by a jet ski accident. However, some people believe Hogan got into a fight with “Macho Man” Randy Savage, who was an announcer at WrestleMania 9, and due to the fight, Hogan had a black eye.

In a new Peacock documentary special called WrestleMania IX: Becoming A Spectacle, WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner said that Savage got into a fight with Hogan and gave him the black eye. Steiner was close with Savage, and they travelled together a lot. Hulk Hogan disputed what Steiner said.

“I guess he bought the story Randy told him. I never had a fight with Randy. If they still want to believe it after we tell them what really happened, fine with me.”

Hulk Hogan Gives His Side Of The WrestleMania 9 Black Eye Story

The Hulkster did his best to explain what happened to cause his black eye before WrestleMania 9.

“Brutus came over and I was riding a Sea-Doo. I get on it and where we were jumping waves, I didn’t know my thumb had pushed the button that made the nose stay down. As soon as I took off, this thing was like a rocket ship. You got 75-80 miles per hour.

I hit that first big swell and I went up. It threw me over the front of the ski, and when I hit the water, I tried to cover (and go under the water) because I knew the ski was coming at me, but my lifejacket pulled me back up, and the 700-pound ski hit me in the face and knocked me out. I was knocked out face down in the water.”

WWE Hall of Famer Brutus Beefcake was with Hogan, so he verified the story.

“He was flying in the air and the ski did a 360. The front of the ski hit him in his orbital and fractured it. He was almost not quite unconscious but pretty much out of it.”

The accident led to a doctor’s trip for Hulk Hogan, who shared what he told the doctor.

“I went to the doctor. ‘Hey doc, you won’t believe what we did. We got this new storyline to trick the fans. We’re going to tell everybody Macho Man beat me up and gave me a black eye. This is all makeup and all these stitches are fake stitches. Please don’t tell anybody.'”

One of Hulk Hogan’s famous lying stories was his claim that he was going to be the celebrity behind the George Foreman Grill that made the boxing legend tens of millions of dollars. However, that was debunked by the grill’s inventor, who stated that Hogan was never considered for it.
