Hulk Hogan Forgets When He Faced Brock Lesnar In WWE
Hulk Hogan’s timeline was way off when trying to remember when he wrestled Brock Lesnar in a WWE ring.
The name of Hulk Hogan is in the news again because The Hulkster and Eric Bischoff revealed they’d partnered with Izzy Martinez to launch Real American Freestyle Wrestling.
It won’t be the same as pro wrestling in WWE or MMA fighting like we see in the UFC, but it will allow freestyle wrestlers to be presented as a professional sport.
While some might question the venture’s success, Hogan and Bischoff do know a lot about putting on an entertainment show, while Martinez knows about freestyle wrestling.
During an interview with TMZ Sports about Real American Freestyle Wrestling, Hulk Hogan discussed former amateur wrestlers who went on to become pro wrestlers. He mentioned Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, and Benjamin Shelton (or Shelton Benjamin, as we know him). When speaking about Lesnar, Hogan had a bizarre recollection of their history in the ring.
“I’ve been in the ring with some really crazy wrestlers. Like, I got Brock Lesnar right after he left the UFC, I got in first.”
This statement is factually incorrect. Hogan only wrestled Lesnar once, on the August 8, 2002, edition of WWE Smackdown. Lesnar won that match on his way to winning his first WWE Title soon after.
Lesnar’s UFC career lasted from February 2008 to December 2011, and then he had one more fight in July 2016. When Lesnar left UFC for WWE, his first opponent in WWE was John Cena at Extreme Rules 2012. It was definitely not Hulk Hogan.
Hulk Hogan Has Lied About His History With Brock Lesnar In The Past
This isn’t the first time that Hulk Hogan has stretched the truth regarding his past with Brock Lesnar because he said a similar thing in a 2023 interview with Joe Rogan.
“I got him first when he came back from the UFC, I was kind of winding down, putting guys over and doing my thing, and Vince goes, ‘I want you to work with Brock.’ I went, ‘Okay.’”
It was not after Lesnar’s UFC run, as mentioned above. It was about four months after Lesnar debuted on the WWE main roster.
“He was really intense. So my whole thing is we always grabbed somebody and squeezed him to give him the office, ‘You’ve got my head, you’re about to break my neck,’ you give him the office to lighten up, and I squeezed the p**s out of him and gave him the office.
Finally, I just started calling him Broccoli, I told him, ‘Broccoli’, and I got him to laugh a little bit, I said, ‘Let me tell you something, if you keep hurting me in here, if you don’t loosen up on the old man here, I’m going to make you look really, really bad because you can be in here by yourself.’ I used to tease him all the time because he’s a really good friend.”
“He’s turned out to be one of the best workers this business has ever seen, I mean, brother, he draws money.”
Wrestling fans know that Hulk Hogan is known for stretching the truth, and apparently, it has become a regular part of his pro wrestling history with Brock Lesnar.
