Hulk Hogan Tries To Explain Why WWE Fans Booed Him
Hulk Hogan thinks he knows why WWE fans booed him on Raw’s Netflix debut in Los Angeles.
There were several big names that were a part of WWE’s Monday Night Raw debut on Netflix in Los Angeles on January 6th. The Rock started the show, John Cena said he was going to win the Royal Rumble (he was the runner-up), Roman Reigns defeated Solo Sikoa in a Tribal Combat Match and CM Punk beat Seth Rollins in a competitive main event grudge match.
Despite all that star power, a moment that garnered a lot of headlines was when Hulk Hogan was booed loudly by the LA crowd while he was trying to promote his Real American Beer and also the success of WWE being on Netflix.
Leading into NBC’s WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event special on January 25th, Hogan was featured in the commercials and it made some fans think he would be there. Hogan ended up canceling because his son Nick got married that day.
While appearing on the Pat McAfee Show hosted by WWE announcer Pat McAfee, The Hulkster was asked if he expected to be booed. Hogan claimed that his heel run in the New World Order from nearly 30 years ago is why he was booed in LA.
“I did. You have to realize, the last I ran hard in LA, I was a bad guy. I was Hollywood Hogan and riding dirty with [Kevin] Nash and [Scott] Hall, spray painting people and crotch chopping everybody.
Last time I was there, I was a heel. I think the politics had a whole lot to do with it. At the end of the day, we looked at it the next day because I had eleven billion impressions, and some of the big stars that were on the card that night only had three billion. I don’t want to name names. [Does ear cup]. Give me some more.”
The “11 billion impressions” number is very questionable, to say the least. The political reason that Hogan hinted at is that he publicly supported President Donald Trump during the US election and California is not a state that supported Trump, so that certainly could be a reason.
Some people could also suspect that part of the reason Hogan was booed is that a lot of fans haven’t forgotten his racist comments in the past. Mark Henry even claimed that Hulk Hogan never wanted to fix things after those comments came out.
Also, the same Los Angeles crowd cheered Hulk Hogan heavily at WrestleMania 21 in 2005 when he was also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame that same weekend.
Hulk Hogan Was On Raw To Talk About His Beer
The two-time Hall of Famer Hogan went on to explain that he was on Raw to promote his beer because it’s a sponsor on Raw and if he was there for other reasons, he may have reacted to the booing.
“I was talking about the beer, we’re in a relationship with WWE, they are my partner in this thing, and I had to be a good guy in LA. If this was for wrestling and they turned on me like that, I would have turned into Hollywood Hogan. You hate me for all I’ve done and the Make-A-Wish kids and all I’ve done for your kids? Guess what. I did it for the money.
Since you want so much hatred coming your way, I hope you have a good time when Kamala Harris is your new governor and you’re all standing in the soup line. Mic drop, see ya. I couldn’t do that. I was ready to go after them.”
It’s not known when Hulk Hogan will appear on WWE television again.
