Hulk Hogan Was “Devastated” By Reaction To Final WWE Appearance
Jimmy Hart has shared his memories of Hulk Hogan.
On July 24, Hulk Hogan, one of the biggest stars that professional wrestling has ever seen, passed away at his home in Clearwater, Florida.
Hogan is regarded as one of the most important figures in wrestling history thanks to his role in the rise of WWE in the 1980s and his impact as part of the nWo in WCW. That’s without mentioning the match many consider to be the best WrestleMania match ever against The Rock at WrestleMania X8.
However, in what turned out to be his last appearance for WWE, the reaction was very different.
Hulk Hogan Was Bothered By WWE Boos
On a new episode of Brisco and Bradshaw, Hogan’s long-time friend and road manager, Jimmy Hart, paid tribute to the WWE legend. During the conversation, Hart reflected on their final appearance on WWE television on the January 6 edition of Raw, where Hogan was heavily booed by the crowd.
Hart put the reaction down to politics, but confirmed that Hogan was devastated by the negative response.
“It’s kind of a mixed reaction, but it’s a little bit more boos than anything. But that devastated him. And we got in the back, and he said, ‘What do you think happened? I said, ‘Hulk, it’s simple — blue state, red state, [Hogan’s support of] Trump/Vance.’
I mean, really, I said, ‘I’m okay with it.’ He goes, ‘What do you think?’ I said, ‘I’m okay. I felt like I was managing the Hart Foundation against the British Bulldogs or the Killer Bees or somebody.
But that bothered him because of that. And I said, well, surely people are going to realize what that was for. So the next week we’re in Texas [to promote Real American Beer] and it’s all cheers, you know? But that always bothered him. It sure did.”
WWE has honoured Hulk Hogan on several occasions since his passing, running multiple tributes during shows, while opening tapings of Raw, SmackDown, and NXT with a ten-bell salute.
