Hulk Hogan Took Blades To The Ring For Infamous Match

Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan is no stranger to controversy and in the summer of 2000 one of the more controversial moments of his wrestling career took place at WCW’s Bash at the Beach.

At that show, Vince Russo wanted Jeff Jarrett to defeat Hogan and retain his WCW World Championship but unsurprisingly, that didn’t work for The Hulkster.

With the situation at a deadlock, Russo instructed that Jarrett should go to the ring for his match and simply lie down and let Hogan pin him as the backstage issues overtook what should have been happening on the show.

Jarrett did this with Hogan reluctantly placing a foot on the champion to win the title before loudly telling Russo in front of everyone that WCW was in the shape it was in – 8 months later the company didn’t exist – because of “bullsh*t like this.” Russo retaliated later in the night with a stinging response to Hogan that wound up with the WWE Hall of Famer launching legal action against Vince Russo and WCW’s parent company, Turner/Time Warner. It marked a sad end to Hogan’s WCW career.

Bubba the Love Sponge has now released a clip from his show that was recorded on the 10th of July 2000 – less than 24 hours after the incident took place.

Shockingly, Hulk Hogan revealed that fearing something might take place or he could find himself in danger, he went to the ring with blades in case he had to fight his way out:

“Go out to the ring bro, and I’m predicting trouble. I don’t know if some of the boys might run out there.”

“So I’ve got my gimmicks on me, I got the half-inch sword, the quarter-inch sword, the two-inch sword you know, can go anywhere from 10 stitches to 500 stitches, depending how bad I wanna pull it. I’m thinking old school, I’m thinking the sh*t’s on now, anything could happen.”

“I keep two in my mouth and one on my wrist. So I’m just being cool about this thing, but I’m not an idiot, I’m covering my ass.”

Thankfully for all concerned, none of the blades secreted on Hulk Hogan made a showing at Bash at the Beach and later that same night Booker T defeated Jeff Jarrett and was declared the new WCW World Champion.
