How John Cena’s Heel Promo Changed The Rest Of WWE Raw
The John Cena heel promo on WWE Monday Night Raw went long and there is an update on how it altered the rest of the broadcast.
At the start of WWE Raw in Brussels, John Cena made his way to the ring in front of a raucous crowd singing “John Cena sucks” at him.
After things calmed down, Cena made a bold statement: “I am not a babyface. I’m not a heel. I’m a human being.” Cena went on to say that he worked hard and won a lot of matches, but the fans still hated him for it.
According to Cena, all the fans ever do is take and only care about themselves. Cena said that you can look in the mirror to see how awful you have been to him for 25 years.
Cena told the fans that they wear his merch to feel good while Cena lives hustle, loyalty, and respect every day. Cena said he is the definition of “never give up” and perseverance and everybody knows it. As he continued, Cena said that you’re all part of a toxic, dysfunctional relationship so the fans chanted “Shut the f**k up” at him.
As he concluded his monologue, Cena said he was breaking up with the fans whether they liked him or not. like him or you don’t – you are dumped. Cena claimed there was nothing you could do because he was right and the fans were wrong.
Cody Rhodes is the Undisputed WWE Champion and Cena’s WrestleMania 41 opponent. Rhodes responded to Cena saying that this man didn’t seem like the same Cena and Cody called him a “whiny b**ch” before leaving.
John Cena’s Promo Affected The Rest Of WWE Monday Night Raw
It was previously reported that John Cena’s first heel promo in over 20 years ran long in terms of how long it was scheduled for on Raw. The segment lasted about 32 minutes, which was longer than expected.
One of the matches that was affected was Jey Uso’s victory over Austin Theory, which was cut to just 30 seconds even though the original plan was for it to be longer.
More details have been provided by WrestleVotes Radio on SportsKeeda’s Backstage Pass Patreon.
“After speaking to sources regarding this past Monday’s Raw, we are told the beginning of the show went longer than initially planned, as the opening segment with John Cena and Cody Rhodes was slated for just 15 minutes due to the overrun in segment number one.
Much of the content then featured on WWE social accounts such as The Maxine Dupree-Natalia Alpha Academy segment, along with the Bayley-Lyra Valkyrie spot, were indeed planned for the live broadcast.
In addition, the now slightly controversial matchup between Jey Uso and Austin Theory was planned for eight minutes of in-ring action post-Jey’s commercial break entrance, which, of course, ended much shorter.”
What’s interesting about the timing of the show is that Raw in Brussels ended about eight minutes earlier than most Raw episodes of the Netflix era, which usually run 2 hours and 30 minutes. Even though Raw airs on Netflix in the US and most countries, the company still tries to hit their times in terms of the segments that take place on the show.
