How Baron Corbin Was Treated Like Dirt In WWE
Baron Corbin is on his way out of WWE and the star has opened up about how he was ground down by constant criticism of his wrestling ability.
Baron Corbin has been told his WWE contract will not be extended meaning that he will leave the company after 12 years when his current deal ends.
For years Corbin battled in WWE as one of the company’s most loathed heels but it was fans questioning his ability in the rings that really upset the former US Champion.
Speaking to Metro before the news of his impending WWE departure broke, Baron Corbin explained how people claiming he couldn’t wrestle left him feeling frustrated:
It can get you a little bit because you just want to be – as lame as it is, you just want to be appreciated for that [in-ring ability]. Do you understand how hard this is to do, on everything in your life? It is the TV, the social media, the home. It can be frustrating to go out there and just get treated like dirt, and then get beat more than you win and so people assume you’re just not good, or something like that. That’s tough to walk around with. So, yeah, it can be difficult.
Baron Corbin Finally Felt Love Of WWE Crowd In France
However, things started to pick up for Baron Corbin when a crowd in Paris, France decided to show him the appreciation he had been starved of as they cheered him wildly, something he thinks gave other crowds the idea that they could cheer him as well:
People were like, “Wait, we can cheer him?” It feels like they’re saying thank you, or appreciating all of those years of just grinding through the mud with being a heel.
So it’s got a different feeling than if they send someone out there and say, “Hey, they’re just a good guy now, cheer for him.” That never happened. I never changed. The fans were like, “Oh no, we get it now”, so it feels pretty good.
One WWE Hall of Famer has been left dismayed by the company’s treatment of Baron Corbin and claimed they should have done a lot more with him.
