How Amazon Prime Video Issues Affected AEW WrestleDream PPV Purchases

AEW WrestleDream PPV

There were issues with Amazon Prime Video that greatly affected AEW WrestleDream PPV buys.

The AEW WrestleDream PPV took place on October 18th, and it was a long show that ran 4.5 hours, ending at 12:30 A.M. ET.

While some AEW hardcore fans likely don’t have a problem paying $50+ for a show that runs over four hours long, some fans complain about their pay-per-views running too long when they don’t really have to.

There were problems with the WrestleDream PPV because Amazon Prime Video’s feed cut off at midnight, which meant that fans didn’t get to see the Darby Allin-Jon Moxley “I Quit Match” main event that Allin won when Sting helped him.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the number of buys for WrestleDream was between 115,000 and 125,000. Meltzer added that the company lost 14.4% in revenue due to Amazon Prime offering full refunds to viewers who ordered the PPV on Amazon Prime Video. It was noted by Meltzer that it would have been a bigger financial hit a few months ago when HBO Max wasn’t airing the PPVs.

According to the Wrestling Observer, here are the AEW PPV buys for their shows in 2025.

  • Revolution (March): 135,000-140,000
  • Dynasty (April): 110,000-120,000
  • Double or Nothing (May): 122,000-130,000
  • All In (July): 180,000-185,000
  • Forbidden Door (August): 122,000-130,000
  • All Out (September): 135,000-140,000
  • WrestleDream (October): 115,000-125,000

It is no surprise that the biggest PPV of the year, All In Texas, has the most buys.

Three Title Matches Set For AEW Full Gear

The final two AEW PPVs this year will be Full Gear on November 22nd and Worlds End on December 27th, both on Saturday nights.

Following this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite, there are three huge title matches set for Full Gear already.

Samoa Joe won a 4-way match on Dynamite to earn a shot at the AEW World Championship held by “Hangman” Adam Page. It will be a rematch of their title match at WrestleDream, which Page won.

The Brodido team of Brody King & Bandido will defend the AEW World Tag Team Titles against FTR’s Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, who also won a 4-way match on Dynamite to earn a title shot.

There’s also an AEW Women’s World Title match as the champion Kris Statlander defends the gold against TBS Champion Mercedes Mone.
