Horrific Reason Behind WWE Scrapping Invasion Show
WWE has moved away from its upcoming ‘Invasion’ show for a very good reason.
During NXT Homecoming, several TNA stars took to social media to express how unhappy they were with the current WWE partnership. One week later, they took action in the winner-take-all match between TNA World Champion Trick Williams and NXT Champion Oba Femi.
Things broke down after Williams slapped Mike Santana, who then retaliated, causing the referee to call off the match. Several TNA stars, including Matt Cardona, Cedric Alexander, and The IInspiration led the attack on NXT as a huge brawl broke out.
At No Mercy, it was announced that a special ‘Invasion’ show will take place on the October 7th edition of NXT. General Manager Ava confirmed that two Survivor Series-style tag team matches will take place, one for the men and one for the women. But now the ‘Invasion’ name has been scrapped.
WWE Replace Invasion With Showdown
WrestleVotes was the first to report that WWE was scrapping the ‘Invasion’ theme, and now the crossover episode will now be titled ‘Showdown.’
The reason for the change is due to backlash at the name in some quarters, as the event takes place on the 2nd anniversary of the Hamas attacks in Israel that killed 1200 people and led to the current war in Gaza, which is causing death and destruction on a huge level.
Some also took issue with the Invasion logo and its red V, which bears a passing resemblance to Hamas’ upside-down red triangle symbol. That logo was first used in WWE in 2001 as part of the WCW/ECW invasion storyline and the pay-per-view of the same name.
