AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida named the one woman she’d most like to face during her title reign.

On the 200th episode of Dynamite on August 2nd, Hikaru Shida defeated Toni Storm to begin her second reign as AEW Women’s Champion. She successfully defended the title against Anna Jay on August 9th.

Speaking in a new interview with Ella Jay for SEScoops, Shida opened up about winning the title for a second time, revealing that she was so excited she found it difficult to sleep on the night of August 2nd.

“Actually I couldn’t sleep at all. Yeah, the feeling my body was so tired and my brain is like a ‘yay happy brain’. So I couldn’t sleep. When I woke up, I think it was like 1 p.m. or something, woke up and my cat laid down on my arms and wait, ‘I got to Dynamite? I actually I did or not? [or] I just stayed at home?’ I was confused. But yeah, I saw the message from Japan, like congratulations. And oh my God, it was real.”

Has Hikaru Shida Ever Wrestled Athena?

Elsewhere in the interview, Shida was asked if there was anyone in particular she has her sights set on facing, and she named current ROH Women’s Champion Athena, noting that the two have only wrestled previously on one occasion.

“Yeah, actually, I have one name. It’s Athena. Yeah. We had just one single at SHIMMER. It was a long time ago, but I really love that much. I’m watching her for a long time, of course, in AEW but before when she was in the other company, I saw her long time and always she’s good. So yeah, I believe in this reign I wrestle her. I really want to.”

Shida’s reign will be tested at AEW All In as she’s set to defend her title in a fatal four way match inside Wembley Stadium on August 27th.
