Heartbreaking Heel Turn As New WWE Champions Crowned
There were new WWE champions crowned at No Mercy with one star turning his back on the group that took them in.
Nathan Frazer and Axiom captured the NXT Tag Team Championship from Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin back in April but since winning the gold, tension has simmered between the partners as both have looked elsewhere for success at the same time.
On the 13th of August edition of NXT, “Fraxiom” put their title on the line against Chase U. The pair of Andre Chase and Duke Hudson had won a number one contender match in June but it was Chase and Ridge Holland who challenged for the title.
With Hudson and Thea Hail leading the Chase U contingent in their support of their teammates, the NXT Tag Team Champions began to fall apart with several miscommunications hampering their chances of winning. In the end, Ridge Holland pinned Axiom to pick up the gold for Chase U. Confetti fell from the ceiling as Chase U celebrated in the ring en masse. But at No Mercy, Nathan Frazer and Axiom got their rematch for the gold.
Nathan Frazer & Axiom Reclaim WWE Gold
Despite more miscommunication between Frazer and Axiom they managed to leave Denver, Colorado with the NXT Tag Team Championship after Frazer pinned Andre Chase. But there was worse to come for Chase U.
Ridge Holland snapped after the defeat and wiped out the male members of Chase U including Duke Hudson and Riley Osborne before he dropped Andre Chase on the announce table with his cradle DDT. Chase was taken out of the arena on a stretcher as a helpless Thea Hail could only weep as she watched the destruction.
