Why “Hangman” Adam Page Refers To AEW World Title Differently Than Others

Hangman Adam Page AEW World Champion

The AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page adds a word when talking about the World Title, and he has explained why.

For the second time in his career, “Hangman” Adam Page became the AEW World Champion when he beat Jon Moxley in the main event of All In Texas.

This AEW World Title win felt different for Hangman because, as the “main character” in the company, he has cemented himself as the biggest babyface in the company, who the fans wanted to end Moxley’s World Title reign of terror, and that’s precisely what Hangman did.

Since winning the AEW World Title, Hangman has referred to the big gold belt as the AEW Men’s World Title, which other wrestlers typically don’t do. As Page told Bleacher Report, it is his way of paying respect to the AEW Women’s World Title and the wrestlers who compete for that title.

“It’s an important distinction because it does put them on the same level. Our women’s roster in AEW is incredible. They are just as, and in many cases, more talented than many on the men’s roster.

I think our fans connect with them in a way just as equally as they do with us. To have two divisions, a men’s and a women’s division, but to have to call one by the Women’s World Championship and the other as if it’s the more important one, you don’t make the distinction.

I feel like that’s not how we present our rosters on television, so why should we refer to the championships in that way either? I’d like to think at least that we don’t present the men and women as being on different playing fields in AEW.

It’s just a personal choice that I hope other people take up, and I’ve noticed it happening a little bit and I hope that continues.”

“Hangman” Adam Page Could Lose AEW World Title Without Being Pinned Or Submitted

At AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door, “Hangman” Adam Page will defend the AEW World Title against his rival Maxwell Jacob Friedman.

On the final Dynamite before Forbidden Door, MJF threatened to light Mark Briscoe on fire while he had Ricochet and Gates of Agony helping Friedman. MJF said he’d let Briscoe go if Page agreed to three conditions for their title match.

  1. The title can change hands via disqualification.
  2. The title can change hands via countout.
  3. MJF does not have to use his contract to get his match at Forbidden Door

Page agreed because he didn’t want his friend Briscoe lit on fire, so that means Page can lose the AEW World by disqualification or countout, which is rare for a title match.

AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door takes place on Sunday, August 24th, in London, England, with this lineup so far:
