Gunther’s WWE Future May Dramatically Change After SummerSlam
Gunther is set to defend the World Heavyweight Title against CM Punk at SummerSlam, but could a win change The Ring General’s future significantly in WWE?
Gunther reclaimed the World Heavyweight Championship he lost at WrestleMania 41 when he put Jey Uso to sleep on the June 9th edition of Raw.
The Ring General will now put that gold on the line against CM Punk, but his career recently claimed a big scalp when he defeated Goldberg in the WWE Hall of Famer’s last-ever match. If Punk falls to the same fate, then that could mean huge things for the Austrian star.
Gunther Reaching New Heights In WWE?
Speaking on Notsam Wrestling, WWE broadcaster Sam Roberts explained why, if Gunther defeats CM Punk at SummerSlam, it would elevate him to an entirely new level in the company:
Gunther has had losses before. He’s lost to Sami Zayn, he’s lost to Jey Uso. But if Gunther can beat CM Punk at SummerSlam. Well, now, you’ve got a Gunther who – you’re not just gonna have him beat Jey Uso, Goldberg, and CM Punk just so he loses to this guy, or just so he loses to that guy.
At that point, you really do go, well now we’re seeing a Gunther that nobody can beat. So as you build opponents for him there’s a new lore going into all those matches and I think a higher degree of excitement that goes into all those matches because we rarely have people like that that are also full-time.
It’s one thing if he goes away and then he comes back but if you have somebody on the roster like that on the roster full-time and I think Gunther is one of the very few people that can actually pull that off.
