Gunther Facing WWE Icon In First World Title Defence

There’s never much time to celebrate at the top of WWE and now Gunther already knows who the first challenger for his World Heavyweight Title is.

Gunther captured the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam when he put Damian Priest to sleep but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Priest might have had the match won but Finn Balor screwed his Judgment Day partner by placing The Ring General’s foot on the rope to keep the match going.

Gunther was introduced for the first time as World Heavyweight Champion by his Imperium partner Ludwig Kaiser on Raw in Baltimore but there was a surprise waiting for the new champion and it came outta nowhere.

Randy Orton vs. Gunther Made Official On Raw

As Gunther told the crowd nothing could catch him by surprise, Randy Orton’s music hit as the fourteen-time WWE World Champion made his way to the ring.

Orton reminded Gunther that when they clashed in the final of the King of the Ring tournament his shoulder was not on the mat for the three-count. With that in mind, Randy Orton wanted another shot at Gunther and challenged him to a World Heavyweight Championship match at Bash in Berlin on the 31st of August.

The two men then shook hands but Gunther warned his challenger that absolutely nothing catches him out of nowhere to which Orton told him that was fine and that he wanted the champion to see it coming.
