Gunther Very Happy With Frustrating WWE Botch

GUNTHER WWE Intercontinental Champion

Gunther saw the bigger picture.

Back in May, Gunther defeated Randy Orton to become King of the Ring and earn a shot at the World Championship. While the Austrian star went on to become World Champion at SummerSlam, the road to glory was paved with controversy.

At King of the Ring, as Gunther pinned Orton to claim the win, The Viper’s shoulders weren’t flat on the mat. The moment caused an outcry on social media, and Triple H was forced to acknowledge the situation, promising a rematch.

Speaking in a new interview with Alistair McGeorge for The Metro, Gunther revealed he was actually happy with how the botch turned out and helped his story with Orton. The pair eventually got their rematch at Bash In Berlin in front of a raucous crowd.

“I was very good with it, because referee’s mistakes happens, and it happens in every sport. It’s part of it.

It fuels the involvement in what we do, because it’s frustrating for the competitors. It’s frustrating for the fans, because they think they were about to see something else, or something else should have been the end of this match.

And I think without, without that happening, the match [at Bash In Berlin] wouldn’t have happened and would not have meant that much.”

Gunther To Face Familiar Face

It’s been announced that Gunther will make the next defence of his World Heavyweight Title against Sami Zayn. The confirmation comes after Zayn has been trying to goad the champion into a match for several weeks.

Zayn is the last man to beat the Ring General in singles action, pinning the star at WrestleMania 40 to claim the International Title.

The match will take place on the October 7th episode of Raw.
