Gunther Unconcerned By CM Punk Challenge
Gunther will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against CM Punk.
After getting revenge on Jey Uso by reclaiming the World Heavyweight Championship in June, Gunther dispatched and retired Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
In need of a new challenge, a Gauntlet Match was announced for Raw with several of the brand’s biggest names all involved.
The action kicked off with Bron Breakker taking on Penta, with the former earning the pinfall thanks to a huge Spear. LA Knight was next up, but he fell to the same fate after multiple attempts to hit the BFT.
This brought out Jey Uso, but he was also defeated thanks to interference from Bronson Reed. To the surprise of just about everyone, Michael Cole announced on commentary that the match was No Disqualification, meaning Reed’s intervention was legal.
The final challenge placed in front of Breakker was CM Punk, who wasted little time in launching an attack. Despite wrestling for over 30 minutes, Breakker fought back before Punk finally saw him off with the GTS.
After the match, Reed and Breakker attacked Punk, but Jey Uso ran out to make the save. However, he was also taken out, setting the stage for Roman Reigns to make his first WWE appearance in several months.
Gunther Sends Warning To CM Punk
With Gunther now set to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against CM Punk at SummerSlam, each man is already trying to get the upper hand.
In a post on Instagram after Raw, the World Champion was quick to remind Punk that he’d already retired Goldberg and silenced Paul Heyman.
Retired Goldberg. Silenced Heyman. Punk, prepare.
