Gunther Shares His Thoughts About John Cena’s Controversial Smile In Final WWE Match
Gunther has broken his silence over the controversial ending of his Saturday Night’s Main Event match against John Cena.
Even before the match began, The Ring General was seen as a major villain by fans due to the threat he posed to Cena’s legacy.
Throughout the match, the 17-time World Champion found himself on the defensive except for a couple of instances where he turned back the clock, performing top rope leg drops and Super Attitude Adjustments.
Intent on ending the match, the Austrian superstar applied the sleeper hold. This led to the fans in the Capital One Arena chant, “Don’t tap out” in unison.
While he tried to get out of the lock, Cena ultimately resigned and tapped out, but with a smile on his face.
The controversial ending left the fans shocked, especially the smile.
While John Cena explained his side of the story, Gunther revealed his thoughts while speaking on The Ringer Wrestling Show, claiming it was a sign of peace and acceptance, and he was fine with it.
That’s the message he wanted to send, and that’s his right, and that’s what he wanted to, the message he wanted to send to his fans. That’s fine. It doesn’t change the outcome if he’s smiling or not. [H/T: Wrestlingnews.co]
What Did Gunther Do After Retiring John Cena?
By the end of Saturday Night’s Main Event, Gunther had become the biggest antagonist in WWE.
In fact, the hatred towards him was so much that he was escorted out of the arena by security.
The Ring General has often claimed to be a career-oriented and headstrong individual, and that he does not have many friends backstage.
Speaking on TMZ Sports, he revealed what he did after his victory against John Cena.
To be honest, I kind of like disappeared. I didn’t really speak to many people because yeah, just sometimes when the damage is done, you leave and you don’t take a bath in it anymore.
I took a bath in it on Monday and yeah, I haven’t really been around after the match.
