Gunther Expected To Beat Another Retiring WWE Legend After John Cena

Gunther

WWE may have hinted at Gunther’s next target.

On the post-Saturday Night’s Main Event RAW show, the WWE Universe saw Gunther brag about his victory over John Cena. He mocked the fans in his promo and stars backstage, boasting how he made Cena “tap like a little bi**h.”

After the RAW General Manager kicked him out of the building, he was seen having a brief interaction with AJ Styles. He did the “You Can’t See Me” gesture before riding out of the building in his car.

Gunther Could Face AJ Styles At WrestleMania 42

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio believes that this segment was not just added to Monday Night RAW for entertainment purposes.

But rather, it was a tease that WWE might be building a rivalry between AJ Styles and The Ring General.

Meltzer also predicted that their epic clash might take place at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas next year.

He smiled and he met with AJ. And, you know, you can kind of see AJ and Gunther being a match that they’re going to do. I don’t know if it’s going to be at Mania, which is kind of weird, you know — in a sense I’d go like, well, AJ hasn’t been pushed that hard, why should he be with Gunther?

But at the same time, you know, they’re trying to duplicate the thing with the AJ retirement, you know, coming up this year. So maybe that’s the beginning of the… you know, I mean, it makes sense for Gunther to face and beat AJ as well.

2026 will be AJ Styles’ last year as an active in-ring competitor. Meltzer also stated that there is a chance Triple H might book Gunther to retire AJ Styles next.

They probably figured that like, you know, have this guy be the guy who ruins every retirement party for super heat.
