Gunther Praised In WWE For Saving Recent Match
Gunther is earning more praise backstage.
At Saturday Night’s Main Event, Gunther put the World Heavyweight Title on the line against Finn Balor and Damian Priest. The match had been due to be a singles bout before Priest was added relatively late in the day.
In the final stages of the match, Balor hit the Coup De Grace on the champion but Priest broke up the pin. Sensing an opportunity, he leveled Balor with a South of Heaven Chokeslam, but this time it was Gunther who prevented the pin.
The Austrian hit Priest with a Powerbomb on the steel steps outside the ring before hitting another on Balor in the ring to grab victory.
Gunther Given Credit
Following the match, Fightful’s Corey Brennan reported that Gunther had earned praise backstage for “saving the ending spot of the triple threat world title match” at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
As the star looked to Powerbomb Priest onto the steel steps, the former champion’s feet caught the steps causing Gunther to wait before repositioning his opponent while still holding him before executing the move safely.
Elsewhere, following the main event, Kevin Owens got into a physical confrontation with Triple H. The clash came after Owens had delivered a Package Piledriver to Cody Rhodes, causing him to be taken out of the arena on a stretcher.
As Owens made his way backstage with the Winged Eagle World Title belt in hand, he was confronted by Triple H. The pair got into a shoving match and exchanged words before they parted.
Following the attack, WWE announced Cody Rhodes had suffered a list of spinal injuries. The update noted that Rhodes had “been officially diagnosed with axial compression of the cervical spine, as well as a cervical strain with spasm.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea Green became WWE’s first-ever Women’s United States Champion at the event thanks to a win over Michin.
