Gunther Faces New Title Challenge After WWE Raw Assault
Gunther now knows who his next challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship is but that contender might have bitten off more than they can chew.
At Survivor Series, Gunther retained his World Heavyweight Championship against Damian Priest after Finn Balor attacked his old Judgment Day partner. The Ring General did not take too kindly to Balor’s interference, however, and delivered a vicious kick to the star.
Balor did not let that go unnoticed on the 2nd of December edition of Raw as he got in Gunther’s face about his Survivor Series win. Finn Balor and Dominik Mysterio interrupted Gunther during a backstage interview gloating that he was the reason Gunther had defeated Priest twice now and demanded a title shot for his help.
Gunther was incensed as he wanted to prove himself following his loss at Crown Jewel to Cody Rhodes and Balor took that chance away. The World Heavyweight Champion told Balor he was owed nothing and instead, he thought Dominik Mysterio deserved something for doing something that Balor had never done and defeated Priest.
Finn Balor Attacks Gunther
That led to Gunther defeating Mysterio in a non-title match later in the night and that’s when Finn Balor struck. Balor delivered several Coup de Graces to the champion. Later on, Balor approached Raw General Manager Adam Pearce about facing Gunther for the title and Pearce revealed Gunther had already agreed to face him for the World Heavyweight Championship with the match being made for Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14th.

However, Adam Pearce noted that he’d be in touch with Balor about his other title match as he is still one-half of the World Tag Team Champions indicating Balor might have to pull double duty on the show.
