It’s Gunther’s time in the sun.

The WWE World Heavyweight Champion successfully defended his title at Saturday Night’s Main Event against the retiring Goldberg.

The match, which saw some hard hits on both sides, ran longer than initially expected.

The viewers even witnessed a spot where Goldberg went through the security barricade after missing a Spear on the champion.

The 58-year-old’s quest to add another title to the trophy case ended in heartbreak after he was choked out in front of his hometown crowd in Georgia.

The crowd was left visibly stunned as the referee called for the bell.

While Goldberg’s in-ring career ended, Sam Roberts of Notsam Wrestling believes the story will be Gunther’s from now on.

He also speculated about “The Ring General’s” next opponent at SummerSlam in his video.

I wouldn’t be surprised if CM Punk and Gunther is your SummerSlam match. [4:56 onwards]

Roberts also appeared to be in awe of the Austrian superstar, as he predicted he might dash Punk’s hopes of winning a championship since his return to WWE.

Gunther Speaks About Retiring Goldberg

After his match against Goldberg, the World Heavyweight Champion shared his thoughts about retiring him.

He appeared on Saturday Night’s Main Event Recap with Sam Roberts and Megan Morant and talked about his most recent feat, while admitting it was no ordinary challenge.

…that guy was not easy to handle for anybody he ever stepped in the ring with. So, I expected that. But, to be honest, today, it caught me by surprise. I was out there with him for 15 minutes or maybe a little bit longer. I don’t think anybody really expected that out of the match, and I expected it to be shorter, so that was a big surprise to me.

Gunther is expected to be present at WWE RAW on Monday, where his next opponent will be revealed.
