Gunther Laughs Off Pat McAfee WWE Match

Gunther WWE World Champion

Gunther faces an unlikely challenge at Backlash and now the former World Heavyweight Champion has given his first reaction to facing Pat McAfee.

At WrestleMania 41, Gunther put his World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Jey Uso in the opening contest of the weekend. Uso survived the worst of The Ring General’s offence and even used it against him as Jey Uso tapped out Gunther with a sleeper hold to win the World Heavyweight Title for the first time in his career.

On Raw in Las Vegas, the fans chanted “you tapped out” at Gunther, which only added to his already raging anger after losing his title. Gunther confronted Michael Cole about the situation, and Cole replied that he wasn’t the one who had tapped out. The former champion locked Cole into a chokehold before Pat McAfee broke it up. As officials ran out to stop the situation from escalating, Gunther locked McAfee in a chokehold and choked him out.

On the April 28 edition of Raw, Pat McAfee returned to the show and was ready to get in The Ring General’s face. McAfee asked stand-in General Manager Nick Aldis to lift the suspension on Gunther so he could get his hands on him. Aldis refused, noting that both men were too important to the company to let that happen.

Aldis, however, noted that he had discussed the possibility with Raw General Manager Adam Pearce and made a match official for Backlash between Pat McAfee and Gunther.

Taking to social media, Gunther had a very simple reaction to his match with Pat McAfee as she shared a crying laughing emoji and a skull emoji.

While it seems unlikely that McAfee would be able to handle Gunther, speculation is already ramping up that someone could be lined up to help the Raw commentator escape The Ring General in one piece.
