Gunther Aims To End John Cena’s Unbelievable 20-Year WWE Streak

Gunther on WWE Raw

John Cena’s final match already feels huge, but Gunther has managed to turn the pressure up even more with one simple promise. The Ring General wants Cena to tap out.

For a guy whose whole aura is built on never giving up, that’s the most brutal way Cena could go out.

Cena will face the Australian star in his retirement bout at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, DC, bringing the curtain down on a legendary WWE career.

The Aussie earned this spot by winning the Last Time Is Now tournament, beating LA Knight in the finals to punch his ticket to Cena’s last dance.

What really has fans talking is the submission angle. Gunther has said in interviews that he wants to force Cena to give up and leave the WWE Universe heartbroken.

Gunther Wants To Make John Cena Tap Out

In a new interview with The Rich Eisen Show, he made it clear that his goal is not just to beat The Last Real Champion, but to make him concede that he can’t go on anymore.

I’m looking for him to give up, to admit he can’t go no more. That’s what I’m going to go for. And yeah, I think that’s where the drama is as well in that match, going into it. (From 1:40)

It is very rare for Cena to tap out in his matches. The last time he lost a match by submission was roughly two decades ago, which was his famous tap-out loss to Kurt Angle on October 24, 2005.

So if the 38-year-old star actually makes him submit on Saturday, it won’t just end Cena’s career; it will also end his iconic 20-year WWE streak.

Also, if Gunther manages to beat Cena via submission, he’ll surely garner a lot of heat from the Cenation.

But the Ring General has stated that he doesn’t mind becoming the most hated man in the sports industry.
