Gunther Gets New WWE Nickname After Retiring John Cena
Gunther has looked invincible since returning to WWE last month.
On December 13, he retired 17-time World Champion John Cena by making him tap out to his sleeper hold, much to the shock of fans and his peers in the company.
Since that eventful night, The Ring General has made two non-wrestling appearances. On the latest episode of RAW, he reiterated making Cena tap out like a b*tch, drawing loud boos from the Michigan audience.
Cena became Gunther’s second victim this year, after the 38-year-old retired Goldberg earlier in July.
This pattern has seemingly earned the Austian a new moniker, with commentator Michael Cole calling him “The Career Killer” during the December 22 edition of the red brand.
After his promo, Gunther was confronted by CM Punk. Following a staredown, he simply laughed and left the ring.
Like last week, he met AJ Styles backstage, which may be an indication that he might retire Styles in 2026.
Kevin Nash Disappointed By Gunther’s Latest Promo
While Gunther is doing a good job of rubbing the fans the wrong way, WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash suggested something that could take the heat to another level.
Speaking on his Kliq This podcast, Nash expressed disappointment with The Ring General just ribbing the crowd. He said the former champion could say something in German and reveal its meaning that would get him more heat.
I was envisioning when GUNTHER came out on Monday that he would walk to the ring, he would show absolutely no emotion. He was kind of glad-handing it. I thought that was wrong… I thought that if he would have went out, got underneath the bottom rope, was handed the microphone.
If he would have cut a promo in German and then started to walk toward the aisleway as he was leaving, and then realized, ‘Oh s***’ and he came back and he goes, ‘For those of you that don’t speak German, what I was saying was, I tapped him out like a b****.’ Let the mic drop, walk out. That f****** place. He would’ve had heat. Gotta have heat, man.
