Gunther Finally Accepts WWE Title Challenge

Gunther World Heavyweight Champion

After weeks of challenges, Gunther has finally relented and granted a World Heavyweight Title shot to Sami Zayn but it came at a price.

At Bash In Berlin, Gunther put Randy Orton to sleep to retain his World Heavyweight Championship as his dominant streak in WWE continued. However, it’s tough at the top and there has been no shortage of challengers looking for a shot at glory.

CM Punk made clear he wanted to set his sights on the World Heavyweight Championship but Drew McIntyre had other plans and now those two men will face each other once more in Hell In A Cell at Bad Blood.

That left the door open for Sami Zayn as he came face-to-face with Gunther and noted that many former Intercontinental Champions – including The Ring General – had gone on to become World Heavyweight Champions and now he wanted his shot at the gold. Gunther noted he liked Zayn as he kept getting back up after being knocked down but in the end, he rejected Zayn’s challenge.

As the champion walked away, Sami Zayn reminded him that he was the only man to have beaten Gunther on the main roster and vowed he would be coming after the gold.

For weeks now, Zayn has challenged Gunther but The Ring General has continued to deny his WrestleMania conqueror but on Raw in Evansville, Indiana, he finally relented.

Sami Zayn Gets His Wish From Gunther

Gunther told Zayn he was embarrassed in front of his family when he defeated him at WrestleMania leading to him not wanting to face him again. Zayn countered by noting that now his family see the champion as a coward for not accepting his challenge and Gunther snapped.

The match between Gunther and Sami Zayn will not take place at Bad Blood however and will instead happen on the 7th of October edition of Raw.

After laying out Sami Zayn, Gunther has a run-in backstage with another former Intercontinental Champion in Bron Breakker as an eventual showdown between those two stars was teased.
