Gunther To Face Top WWE Star In Austrian Homecoming

Gunther WWE World Heavyweight Champion

Gunther will be facing one of the biggest names in WWE in his home country.

The Men’s Royal Rumble winner Jey Uso has officially chosen to face the World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER at Wrestlemania 41 in Las Vegas.

As the Royal Rumble winner, Jey had the option of facing WWE Champion Cody Rhodes or Gunther. After Jey made his entrance on Raw, Gunther tripped him up on the announce table and a huge brawl ensued. After Gunther put Jey down with multiple Powerbombs, Jey did a promo saying he picked Gunther for a match at WrestleMania.

Before Gunther gets to WrestleMania, he has some big World Heavyweight Title defenses in Europe. While WWE has cut back significantly on the number of North American live event shows that they used to do, they are still doing them in Europe this coming March.

It has been announced by WWE’s Germany account on social media that Gunther will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against the former champion Seth “Freakin” Rollins in Germany on March 15th in Dortmund and March 16th in Hannover. Both of those matches will be Steel Cage matches.

CM Punk Will Also Challenge Gunther At WWE Live Event

Later that same month, Gunther will also defend the World Heavyweight Championship against CM Punk on March 29th in Vienna, Austria, which is Gunther’s home country.

While it seems unlikely that Gunther would lose his World Heavyweight Title to Rollins or Punk at a live event, you never know what could happen at a WWE event.

Rollins and Punk could be in the same match at WrestleMania 41 since they have been rumored to be part of a triple threat match with Roman Reigns, but nothing is official yet.
