Gunther Dismisses Fan Theory About WWE Run

Gunther won’t be changing his style for anyone.

After arriving on SmackDown in April 2022, Gunther quickly established himself as one of the most dominant stars on the main roster. He’d already dominated the European scene and NXT and NXT UK but this was a whole new level.

The star went on to become the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in history before winning King of the Ring. As a result of his win, he now stands on the brink of a date with Damian Priest and the World Heavyweight Title at SummerSlam.

In a new interview with Cameron Hawkins for The Ringer, the star admitted he never expected to feature on the main roster as he felt he didn’t fit. When it was put to him that several talents have altered their in-ring style to fit with WWE, Gunther denied ever being given a similar instruction.

“Nobody ever in WWE told me to change anything. Nobody does [what I do] better than me. And that’s what I have to offer.

I’m not that wrestler that comes out of this system that something doesn’t work, and next week I have a new character; that won’t happen in my case because I’m myself.”

Gunther Wants “Proper” Program With Finn Balor

Speaking elsewhere, Gunther said he would like to have a lengthy rivalry with Finn Balor — a man he calls one of the greatest European wrestlers ever.

On the July 29th episode of Raw, the Austrian star wrestled Balor for the first time, forcing his rival to pass out in a Sleeper Hold. With the match won, he refused to let go of the hold, with Priest running out to make the save.

Gunther and Balor were meant to square off at NXT TakeOver: Dublin in 2020, but the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
