GUNTHER Responds To Critics Of Huge WWE SummerSlam Match
GUNTHER gave his thoughts on people who think that his upcoming WWE SummerSlam match should feature other big names in the company.
As the 2024 WWE King of the Ring winner, former Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER earned their right to challenge the World Heavyweight Champion at SummerSlam on August 3rd in Cleveland.
There were two main roster WWE PLEs since the King & Queen of the Ring event. At Clash at the Castle, World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest benefitted from CM Punk’s assist in a match that Priest won over Drew McIntyre. At Money in the Bank, Priest survived a triple threat match with Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre thanks again to Punk’s desire to screw over McIntyre.
While Priest has been a fighting champion who defends his championship at PLE shows, Gunther has been waiting for his opportunity.
In an interview with Gorilla Position, Gunther gave his thoughts on facing Priest at SummerSlam while former multi-time WWE Champions like Rollins, McIntyre and Punk are not part of the match.
“People were like ‘why is Seth not involved? Why is Drew not involved? Why is Punk not involved?’ On the other hand, it’s the same people that would complain that there are no new stars built, there’s no opportunities for other people than the usual ones.”
“And I feel going into a match with Priest, 2nd or 3rd biggest PLE in the company, it’s just a testament for management right now how it’s important to them to feature new faces in those big roles and situations, and now it’s up to both of us to step up to it.”
What Other Matches Might Be Added To SummerSlam Along With Damian Priest-GUNTHER?
Another match that will likely be official for SummerSlam will feature the Queen of the Ring Nia Jax challenging WWE Women’s Champion Bayley.
Several other big matches are likely for SummerSlam including Cody Rhodes defending the WWE Title against Solo Sikoa, Liv Morgan defending the Women’s World Title against Rhea Ripley, Drew McIntyre facing CM Punk if Punk is ready to go and Logan Paul defending the US Title against LA Knight as well.
