Gunther Confesses To Being Under Pressure After Retiring John Cena
Gunther admits to being under pressure after defeating John Cena on Saturday.
On December 13, The Ring General made Cena tap out to his sleeper hold, something the 17-time world champion had not done in over 20 years.
Many fans felt that the decision to have Cena lose was not right, with some even believing that WWE inadvertently buried the 38-year-old in the process.
The Austrian felt the wrath of the wrestling fans on the subsequent Monday Night RAW episode, where he was booed mercilessly.
Gunther, being the experienced performer that he is, put on a brave front and gloated about his victory, further drawing the ire of the Pennsylvania crowd.
Gunther Reflects On Comparison With Brock Lesnar Ending The Undertaker’s WrestleMania Streak
During a recent appearance on TMZ Sports, Gunther was informed about his win being compared to that of Brock Lesnar, when The Beast Incarnate handed The Undertaker his first defeat at WrestleMania in 2014.
In response, he said that there was a similar level of outrage post-WrestleMania 30, and admitted to feeling pressure because it was now up to him to protect his legacy.
I think you can make it (the comparison) because I think back about then, it was like a similar situation. It was like a real outrage about it, and it was the right thing back then because Brock is still in the company. He was the mountain to climb for 10 years now or how long that’s or how long ago that he ended this streak, but it is a similar situation that also comes with a bit of pressure because at the end of the day, what I achieved that night is a gift and now it’s on me to protect that gift, keep it up, and that’s the challenge for me now. Judge me after how I did. [9:09 onwards]
